Julia Mazur

Julia Mazur (PL) born. 2000

Julia Mazur is a London based multidisciplinary designer working at the intersection of fashion, sculpture, and performance. She is currently pursuing an MA in Fashion (Sculpturewear) at the Royal College of Art as The Deputy Vice Chancellor’s UK Scholarship recipient. In 2022, she graduated with a BA in Fashion Design Technology: Womenswear from the University of the Arts London – London College of Fashion.

Her practice revolves around Performative Sculptures—multi-membered garments designed for human hybrids, exploring anthropomorphic symbiosis between bodies, fabric, and objects. Working across mediums such as fashion, theater, film, sculpture, and choreography, she investigates the interplay between physicality and narrative-driven design.

A defining aspect of her work is the strict use of black fabrics, with sculptural forms activated through experimental movement and performance. Her designs engage with social and political themes, particularly sacrifice and linguistics, approaching them both through physical activism and metaphorical expression.

She is the author of the viral performative collection Holokaustos (ὁλόκαυστος), from ὅλος (hólos, “whole”) + καυστός (kaustós, “burnt”) or καίω (kaíō, “I burn”), which amassed nearly 11 million views on TikTok and paid tribute to Ryszard Siwiec’s act of self-immolation.

Mazur has co-created costumes while assisting directors on film and theater productions, collaborating with institutions such as Łódź Film School, the Helena Modrzejewska National Stary Theatre, Łaźnia Nowa Theatre, and Scena Supernova Theatre.

She has exhibited in London at Present/Non Present Bodies (Night Café Gallery), Stitched in Sound: A Collective Sonic Tapestry (Royal College of Music), WIP Exhibition (Fashion Space Gallery), Unde Malum: Where Does Evil Come From? (Banking Hall, organized by the XVI Congress of Polish Student Societies), as well as in Cracow at STANDBY-ЧАТУВАННЯ – CZUWANIE, an experimental event by UKRAINA TV.

Her work has been recognized in competitions such as XPS REVOLT by Brodka (graphic design) and Shopping Experience powered by VOGUE Polska (fashion illustration).

In 2024, she directed movement for a ‚YRMTC’ performance by Michalina Marciniec, staged at Kingston School of Art in London. She previously collaborated with musicians from Subito Ensemble (Royal Northern College of Music) for Subito Festival (2022). She also designed costumes and provided visual support for ‚Last Girl in Ealing’, a dance performance by krysa collective, showcased at SET Ealing in London (2023).

Pushing the boundaries of wearable sculpture, Mazur creates work that transcends conventional fashion, embedding performance, choreographed movement, and human expression into her designs.
